Israelis Hungry for More after Friendly Win

February 11th, 2009 | By: Ibracadabra | No Comments »

Some major sporting and political news coming out of Israel this week with General Elections held yesterday, as well as Bar Rafaeli gracing Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit cover, but more importantly – for football fans at least – was Israel’s friendly match with Hungary.

The Israelis, ranked 19th in the world according to FIFA, were able to keep a clean sheet at home and take down the 43rd ranked Hungarians 1-0 today in Tel Aviv.

Israel’s display was by no means fluid – in fact, it was quite wasteful in front of goal, but captain (superhero?) Yossi Benayoun provided the goods with a 76th minute finish.

Israel dominated possession, but will have to be better next month in World Cup qualification against Greece.
