Israel’s Finest Nets from an Impossible Angle

January 28th, 2009 | By: Ibracadabra | No Comments »

It still wasn’t enough to secure all three points for Liverpool, but “Israel’s Steven Gerrard,” Yossi Benayoun, scored from an impossible angle this evening against Wigan in the Premier League.

Liverpool conceded a late penalty and had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 draw, but Israel fans can hope that Benayoun’s technique and lucky cool finish will inspire confidence in the Blue and White skipper heading into a few massive World Cup qualifiers this spring.

In late March, the second-placed Israeli national team faces off against UEFA Group 2 leaders Greece in a massive “home” and “away” series.

The two countries will meet on March 28th in Tel Aviv and then again just three days later on April 1st in Athens.

Greece goalkeeper and voiceless plosive specialist Konstantinos Chalkias will surely have his eye on the talismanic Israeli after this effort…

Here’s the link to Benayoun’s ’round the keeper finish.
