Israel’s Grant Turns Down Offer to Work with Bulgaria’s Berbatov

January 30th, 2009 | By: Ibracadabra | No Comments »

Former Chelsea and Israel national team manager Avram Grant has turned down an opportunity to fill the vacant coaching job at the Bulgarian national team.

Grant, Israel’s most famous coaching export, could not come to a salary agreement to take charge of the Bulgarians and work with world class talents Martin Petrov, Dimitar Berbatov, and Stiliyan Petrov.

Grant remains a hot coaching prospect around Europe but has yet to take on a new challenge after taking Chelsea within inches of their first Champions League Title in 2008 – courtesy of a John Terry missed penalty kick.

Grant previously led Israel’s national team to an undefeated World Cup 2006 Qualifying campaign (4 wins, 6 draws) but the Israelis marginally missed out on the World Cup, and group winners France and Switzerland made the trip to the 2006 competition in Germany instead.
